The Ilyushin IL-86 was the first Soviet four-engined wide-body airliner. Designed in the 1970’s with the intention to be officially presented at the Moscow Olympics, the plane finally entered in service at the end of 1980. A total of 106 aircrafts have been built until the end of production in 1993, three of them were exported to China. The Il-86 was discarded and withdrawn from service starting from 2001.
